Narcissism Recovery

If you have a parent, partner, or other person in your life who has narcissistic traits, it can be hard to believe you can recover from the trauma you've experienced from being in relationship with them. Happily, you can learn to recognize and regulate the thoughts and feelings that make it uncomfortable to be in your own mind and body. And you can learn the skills you need to prioritize your wants and needs, set boundaries effectively, communicate assertively, use your personal power wisely and well, and enjoy the life you deserve.

I work with clients who want to be no contact, low contact, medium contact, or have high or daily contact with a person they believe has narcissistic traits. My goal is to teach you skills and tools that make it easier to engage (or not) with your person with narcissistic traits. We'll also work together to uncover what you find triggering about engaging with a person with narcissistic traits, and find ways to allow you to stay calm instead.

I also work with individuals who believe they have narcissistic traits. People with narcissistic traits have a personality style that has intersected with childhood abuse or neglect. The lack of caring parenting they received leaves them emotionally challenged: They are focused on how they think and feel, and they struggle with caring about how others think and feel.

However, it's possible to heal from those childhood hurts, and learn how to recognize and respond to others' thoughts and feelings. We work to uncover beliefs about entitlement and replace them with more adaptive beliefs. We also explore how to strengthen empathy skills, and heal childhood hurts that make it hard to trust others.

I have both personal and professional experience in narcissism recovery, but I rely on the research in working with my clients. In particular, I keep up with the research in neuroscience with regard to how childhood trauma intersects with personality to result in narcissistic traits. This research explains how to heal from narcissistic abuse, and how to help people with narcissistic traits heal from their hurts and engage with others' emotions.
