Quotable Quotes

white sign with black lettering that reads "turn ideas into reality"

My clients know well I love a good quote. Quotes are a way to condense information into a sentence or two, so you can remember it. This makes quotes an excellent way to be a caring parent to yourself. When a challenging situation arises, and you’re trying to learn a new way of thinking and feeling about a situation, a quote is a fast and easy way to remember.

The intent behind today's post is to provide all of the quotable quotes I use in sessions, all in one place, so my clients can find them when they need them. In a few cases, I’ve included brief notes in [brackets], to provide additional clarity. And I’ve done my best to give credit where credit’s due. In some cases, the originator of the quote is unknown, but I’ve provided the source where I learned the quote. Let's kick it off with my all-time favorite quote:

  • Nobody cares how much you know, until they know how much you care. ~ attributed to Theodore Roosevelt

  • Believe half of what you see, and none of what you hear. ~ Benjamin Franklin

  • Talk is cheap, it takes money to buy whiskey. ~ Unknown

  • This is happening to me personally, but not because of me personally. ~ Donna Acosta

  • When you're right, you don't need to be defensive. ~ Donna Acosta

  • There is no hierarchy of suffering [suffering is perception, which cannot be compared]. ~ Sarah Bird

  • True strength is delicate. ~ Louise Berliawsky Nevelson

  • Sometimes, I feel discriminated against, but it does not make me angry. It merely astonishes me. How can any deny themselves the pleasure of my company? It’s beyond me. [self-esteem] ~ Zora Neale Thurston

  • I’ve missed more than 3,000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. Twenty-six times, I’ve been trusted to take the game-winning shot, and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed. [self-concept] ~ Michael Jordan
